Prince Diponegoro
Prince Diponegoro, born on 11 November 1785, was the eldest son of Sultan Hamengkubuwono III of Yogyakarta. He was a Javanese prince who played a very important role in the Java war. He was more interested in his religious life and be close with his people that he chose to live outside the palace, right in the village of Tegalrejo, which is about 7km from the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace. One day, the dutch intended to build a highway that connects Yogyakarta and Magelang. One sector of the rode that was being built crossed Prince Diponegoro's family grave. He was very angry about it. On 28 March 1830, Diponegoro was invited to come to Lieutenant General De Kock's home in Magelang to negotiate an end of hostilities and guaranteed safety of passage. There, after three hours, Diponegoro was arrested. After his arrest, he was immediately taken to Semarang and Batavia. Then he was taken to Manado. After several years in Manado, he was moved to Makassar in July 1833. His physical health deteriorated due to old age, and he died on 8 January 1855 in Makassar. His struggles against the Dutch for five years has become celebrated by Indonesians throughout the years.
I think Prince Diponegoro is such an amazing person. He has inspired me a lot. He taught me to be brave, to stand up for myself, to fight for my rights and for my beloved nation. He also taught me to be a religious and humble person and he taught me to never give up.
